Date: 26th and 27th September 2019
Location: National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia
During the two events: Institute open days and the Researchers’ night, technical demonstrations of innovative procedure of obtaining the added value products from wooden biomass were done on the premises of the National Institute of Chemistry.
The introduction outlined the main facts about the bioeconomy and highlighted the importance of innovation and the transfer of knowledge from research institutions to industry for faster development of the bioeconomy.
In the following, the possibility of harnessing wood biomass, which can by process of liquefaction be transformed into some products or materials with greater added value, was presented. A live demonstration was carried out in the laboratory demonstrating the use of liquefied biomass for the preparation of polyurethane foam suitable for insulation.
The participants also got acquainted with the latest discovery of this process which is an innovative and eco-friendly process for the production of nanocellulose, which can significantly improve some of the properties of materials in everyday use but it can also replace raw materials that are otherwise produced from crude oil.
